Alaska Must Haves

This summer will be extra exciting as Zach, my parents and I are headed to Alaska to visit my brother who moved up there last May.  This will be Zach and I's second trip to AK, and mom and dad's 4th & 3rd respectively.  Well last time we went was 4 years ago, and it was on a cruise ship, so I don't really have any hiking, rain or fishing gear for AK (err that fits like it should).  So I've as always compiled a list of the "must-haves" that I have come up with, and I'm definitely willing to accept any suggestions from anyone out there reading.

I need a rain jacket that's functional in more than one way.  This would serve the purpose.  If I'm going to spend money on something I want quality, and something that I can use again.  Well, if it's camo I can wear it again hunting, and the packable qualities make it even better.  It can be stowed away easily if it's not raining.

Rain pants aren't exactly necessary, but we are planning on getting some fishing time in, so they are necessary.  I didn't have rain pants last trip, but I didn't spend 8 hours on a boat fishing either.  I'm not very good at cold & wet, so the pants would be amazing!  They are also easily packed away, which is nice, since I doubt anyone wants me bringing a million bags with me.

These would be wearable with jeans without looking too horrible, plus they are waterproof which would be great too.

These pants are durable, and completely wearable to dinner or any other function.  Very rugged so they would hold up well hiking, and wouldn't look too bad for casual every day wear here in Oklahoma.

I'm open to  all suggestions that anyone out there might have.  I need good quality gear that can take a beating in AK, and come home to take another beating in OK for hunting, fishing, and shed hunting here.  Also if anyone else out there has any good fishing charters close to Anchorage, I would love suggestions.  We are staying close to Anchorage to spend more time with my brother, and we are considering doing a day of fly out fishing, but I am terrified of float planes, so suggest away if you know something that doesn't involve flying and isn't horribly far away.

I am very jealous! My wife and I haven't been up there for 6 or 7 years. We rented an RV in Anchorage and spent the next ten driving and camping, it was awesome. Not much to suggest on clothing but don't forget your bear spray or a .454 :) PLENTY of batteries and flash cards for your camera too! Have fun!

BTW - My blog is no longer found at scentfreelipgloss.com. It is now FromTheDraw.com.
